De-LAB at the Diplomacy Festival 2020

We accepted with great pleasure the invitation of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation to take part in the Diplomacy Festival 2020. The event, now in its eleventh edition, involves the participation of leading personalities of diplomacy and Italian and international organizations. The Festival, this year, is dedicated to the 5 P which the Sustainable Development Goals of Agenda 2030 are based on: People, Prosperity, Peace, Planet, Partnerships.

De-LAB was among the speakers of the panel dedicated to the P of “Prosperity” on October 26th. After the intervention of AICS Director, Dr. Luca Maestripieri, and Dr. Grazie Sgarra, Director of AICS Public-Private Partnerships Office, we presented KOKONO™, a project for which we were among the winners of the AICS call “Innovative Ideas for Development” in 2018. We spoke about inclusive and sustainable economic growth for all, bringing our example of inclusive business in Uganda. In fact, the KOKONO™ cradle is both an object that satisfies the needs of Ugandan mothers to protect their children from disease and danger, but it is also a business project that involves creation, production and distribution on site directly by Ugandan companies and entrepreneurs.

KOKONO™ can be summarized in three words:

– Resilience, as the project had to readjust after exogenous events such as the grasshopper invasion in Uganda and the world pandemic;

– Circularity, as it is a development cooperation project with both social and environmental impacts;

– Hybridization, as it involves the collaboration of De-LAB, which is a private company, with Ugandan institutional actors and Italian and international non-profit organizations.
